Champaign County Crime Stoppers collect 200 lbs of unwanted medicines at drop-off, shred event

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Nearly 200 pounds of unwanted medicine were disposed of over the weekend through Champaign County Crime Stoppers.

The crime fighting organization held an event on Saturday for disposal of personal documents and unwanted prescription medicines. The event attracted a line of cars in Parking Lot E-14 on the University of Illinois campus and by the event’s end, officials said, 200 pounds of medicine were collected for disposal.

In a Facebook post recapping the event, Crime Stoppers thanked Triad Shredding for the donation of their services to make the event possible. They also recognized Keller Williams Realty and The Real Estate Center of Illinois, LLC for taking part and matching donations up to $2,000, as well as ICON for Illini and Fighting Illini athletes who helped unload vehicles.
