Chambers County School District introduces new Valley High Principal

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) – The Chambers County School District announced on Tuesday through a press release that a new principal for Valley High School (VHS) was chosen. Meet Troy Kelley.

The school district said Kelley is coming to Valley High from his current role as a principal for Inspire Academy in LaFayette, Alabama. Kelley will replace Montray Thompson who served as the VHS principal since 2021.

The school district noted that this upcoming academic year will mark Kelley’s 34th year working in education. Before becoming a principal at Inspire Academy, Kelley served as an English teacher at Long Cane Middle School in Troup County, Georgia, and an English teacher at Arnold Magnet School in Muscogee County, Georgia.

From 2020 to 2021, Kelley also served as the director of adult education at Southern Union Community College in Opelika, Alabama. He relocated to Chambers County after retiring as a Tennessee educator in 2018 to serve as the director of academics for Springwood School until 2020.

During Kelley’s 27 years as a Tennessee teacher, he served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal and a district-wide K-12 instructional coach for the Sevier County School System in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Before starting his career in education, he earned a Bachelor of Science in English from Carson Newman University in 1990. He later earned his Masters in Teaching in 1995 from Carson Newman University. In 1997, Kelley earned his Education Specialist in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.
