Central Valley LGBTQ organization has a new name. Here’s why and what it does

The LGBTQ Collaborative announced it will adopt the unified identity of CalPride in June in an effort to merge services and its reach across the Central Valley region.

California Pride, a prominent LGBTQ organization, serves seven counties. Its services, offered through entities including The Rainbow Resource Center, the LGBTQ Rural Resource Center and Somos Familia Valle Central, cover a wide spectrum, including peer support, health screenings, workforce development and advocacy.

The initiative seeks to streamline operations, underscore the extensive geographic coverage across seven counties and centralize online presence through the domain CalPride.org.

The LGBTQ Collaborative supports communities across Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Tuolumne, Calaveras, Mariposa and Amador counties.

“We are excited to embark on this new chapter as California Pride,” or CalPride, said Roman Scanlon, the newly appointed executive director of CalPride Stanislaus.

“This name change reflects our commitment to inclusivity and unity within the LGBTQ community across the region. We believe that presenting a cohesive identity will enhance our ability to serve and advocate for LGBTQ individuals and their allies effectively.”

CalPride Stanislaus will continue to provide vital services such as peer support, STI (sexually transmitted infections) and STD testing, workforce development and HR/employer training, Scanlon said.

The transition to CalPride will be commemorated throughout LGBTQ Pride Month in June, kicking off with an open house event at 1202 H St., Suite C, in Modesto on June 3, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

The community is invited to attend and discover the range of services and resources offered by CalPride, fostering connections and raising awareness of LGBTQ issues.

“I am honored to lead CalPride Stanislaus and be part of an organization dedicated to empowering LGBTQ individuals,” he said.
