Central Park Peacock Returns to Roost

The Central Park Zoo's peacock has returned to its home after spending the night abroad in the city. After perching on a Fifth Avenue ledge five stories up overnight, the bird "flew back on his own" at about 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, zoo director Jeff Sailer told The New York Times' City Room blog. The bird apparently flew out of its open-roofed aviary on Tuesday afternoon, and spent its sojourn perched on a windowsill. Sailer told The Times on Tuesday evening that the birds normally spent their nights perched above ground, and that they retreated to high places when they felt threatened, as this one apparently did by the crowd that gathered.
