Central Lady Cat, Jaylen Dehoyos looks to break records at 6A State Powerlifting meet

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The senior Lady Cat powerlifter is heading to State, qualifying for the third time, after breaking 6A records at Regionals in Big Spring as well as being named Overall Best Lifter.

“Just seeing where I came from, from my freshman year and all the new levels I have progressed over the years, just made me achieve more and especially going all out on the platform, it’s just amazing, having people cheer for me,” said senior Lady Cat, Jaylen Dehoyos.

Jaylen Dehoyos has a number of awards during her time as a Lady Cat powerlifter.

  • 3X State Qualifier

  • 3X Regional Champion

  • 4X Regional Qualifier

  • 2X Record setter in squat, bench, deadlift, and overall lift total

  • 2023 – Third place finish at 6A THSWPA State Meet

  • 2022 – 10th place finish at 6A THSWPA State Meet

Last year, Dehoyos placed third at the 6A Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) Girls State powerlifting meet but looks to go for Gold this 2024 season.

“I’m just really staying positive being open to any missed lifts or anything like that. Staying healthy is always an option as well, you know just, I think I’m going to go for it,” said Dehoyos. “I’m planning to do College Powerlifting as well, gotten some offers so I’m planning to see where it takes me as well.”

Dehoyos will represent Central High School in the 6A THSWPA Girls State powerlifting meet on Wednesday in Frisco, Texas at the Comerica Center. Lifting starts for her weight class at 1:30 p.m., on platform three. There will be a send off Tuesday, March 12 at 10:45 a.m., the send off line will start on the East side of the San Angelo Stadium and down Knickerbocker towards Bryant.
