Census: Fayetteville surpasses 100k residents in 2023
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Fayetteville was one of four U.S. cities to surpass 100,000 residents in 2023, according to newly released U.S. Census data.
Eight of the 12 largest cities in the state saw a population growth from 2022 to 2023, according to the estimates.
Fayetteville’s population exceeded 100,000 residents for the first time, increasing from 99,688 in 2022 to 101,680 in 2023, a jump of nearly 2%. Yuma, Arizona (100,858), Palm Coast, Florida (102,113) and Suffolk, Virginia (100,659) were the other three
Little Rock has the largest population with more than 200,000 residents and 100,000 more than Fayetteville.
Fort Smith was the largest city to see a decrease in population, losing around 300 residents from 2022 to 2023. North Little Rock, Pine Bluff, and Hot Springs also saw marginal population drops.

Outside of the top 12, Centerton and Pea Ridge were among the fastest-growing cities in the state. Centerton saw an 11.20% increase from 21,540 in 2022 to 23,953 in 2023, the sixth-fastest growing city in the country, the U.S. Census said.
Pea Ridge has also seen rapid growth with a 10.46% increase from 7,858 in 2022 to 8,680 in 2023. The city has grown by more than 2,000 residents since 2020.
