The head of the NYPD detectives’ union said the House of Representatives should vote to censure “Squad” member Rep. Jamaal Bowman for recently defending placing cop killer and fugitive Joanne Chesimard on his Bronx middle school’s Hall of Honor when he was the principal.

“We do not believe Bowman represents any modern or enlightened values, and is himself a disgrace to his own profession,” Detectives’ Endowment Association president Paul DiGiacomo said in a letter sent to House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday.

Bowman was recently asked at a community forum on whether he regretted honoring Chesimard aka Assata Shakur — a black militant on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Chesimard was convicted with two others in the execution-style slaying of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster in 1973 before she escaped jail and fled to Cuba.

“Who are you to tell anyone on how they should engage in their own history and the people in their history?” Bowman said at a Feb. 21 Yonkers Third Precinct Community Council meeting.

Marty Dolan, one of two Democrats challenging the two-term incumbent in a Democratic Party primary this year, had asked the question.

“My school included black and Latino students,” Bowman said, in the exchange caught on video. “We tried to teach as much of our black and Latino history as possible — the good, the bad and the ugly.”

Bowman has already been censured by the House for pulling a fire alarm in a Capitol Hill office building last year in an alleged stunt to delay a vote to avert a government shutdown.

“The question isn’t how he personally processes black history, but what perverse notion he was teaching to other people’s children,” the DEA’s DiGiacomo said in the letter to the speaker.

He said it was inexcusable to honor a cop killer instead of so many other accomplished black and Latino leaders from all walks of life.

“What a disgrace and nightmare for parents, especially in The Bronx which suffers from high rates of crime including gun violence and childhood and teen deaths,” the union leader said.

“We believe Bowman should be censured for his actions and his words. What he said is a disgrace, especially to the men and women of law enforcement, who are entrusted with protecting those who are victimized each day by the wanton violence that permeates our society.”

Bowman, who represents the 16th Congressional District that takes in much of Westchester County and parts of the Bronx, faces a stiff primary challenge from Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
