ITV has released the rating figures for Celebrity Big Brother 2024 launch (March 4), with the episode boasting its largest audience for a launch since 2016.

Last night, a peak of 3.2 million viewers tuned in to see presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best welcome 13 new celebrity housemates into the famous house, including former X Factor judges Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Strictly Come Dancing professional Nikita Kuzmin.

The viewing figures marked the highest audience for a launch since the 2016 series, best remembered for US reality TV star Tiffany Pollard mistaking David Bowie's death with that of former housemate David Guest.

ITV shared further ratings success from the night, with the broadcaster claiming during its launch between 9pm and 10.30pm last night, ITV had double the audience than "any other channel".

The rebooted series also proved popular with younger viewers, with ITV stating Celebrity Big Brother's launch "secured the highest 16-34 audience of the night" with 463,000 people tuning in across various devices.

Last night's launch saw the return of Celebrity Big Brother after five years off-screen, with the format last running in 2018 on Channel 5, presented by The Voice UK's Emma Willis.

Coronation Street star Craig Tinker and Kate Middleton's uncle Gary Goldsmith were two additional cast members unveiled on the night, alongside Celebs Go Dating star David Potts and Heartstopper actor Bradley Riches.

Not long into the launch, Big Brother revealed the first twist of the series, with Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh given the secret task of nominating three of their fellow housemates. Those selected are at risk of being the first evicted from the 2024 series.

Celebrity Big Brother airs Sundays through Fridays at 9pm on ITV1 and the ITV Hub, followed by Late & Live on ITV2 immediately following each new episode.
