It looks like Louis Walsh could become Celebrity Big Brother's 2024 villain.

The music manager, 71, has already caused a stir with his appearance in Celebrity Big Brother as he returned to TV for the first time in five years. Viewers were convinced Walsh could be the ideal antagonist for this series after Tuesday's episode.

Is The X Factor star going to become Celebrity Big Brother's 2024 villain? And does reality TV always need a bad guy?

Louis Walsh's 'diva behaviour'

During Tuesday's episode, Celebrity Big Brother fans watched in shock as the former X Factor judge made huge demands about his sleeping arrangements, and was called out for his "diva behaviour".

Real Housewives of Cheshire Lauren Simon star had claimed the best bed in the shared bedroom, but Walsh immediately insisted she move because he wanted that bed.

Viewers weren't impressed with the moment as they called the star out for his "diva behaviour". Among the comments, one said: "LOUIS WALSH: "Up, up, up, that's mine, I'm there" OH, YOU UTTER DIVA! I liked Louis Walsh before he entered, but I'm not liking his personality."

A row could have easily broken out over the sleeping arrangements, as Simon had just made herself comfortable on the bed when Walsh made his demand saying: "No, that's mine. Out. That's mine. Up, up up, that's mine."

Keeping it calm, the Real Housewives of Cheshire poured cool water on the situation. The reality star said she had no plans to argue and agreed to move bed saying: "That's fine, I'm not going to argue."

His words didn't go unchallenged in the house though. Soon after, Kate Middleton's uncle Gary Goldsmith confronted Walsh for his behaviour as he felt the TV judge's words were "strong". Walsh claimed that it was in good humour and it had been a joke. He said: "I was joking, she knows I was joking."

How did viewers react?

Social media was awash with Celebrity Big Brother viewers taking aim at Walsh for saying he wanted to have the bed. Among the comments, one viewer wrote: "Take my word on this louis walsh is going to be this seasons villain #cbbuk."

Others added: "Did Louis just say to Lauren up up up wow lol ! Of course Sharon wasn’t going to stay in with them LOL #CBB."

"Obsessed with the truly evil louis walsh booting lauren out of the bed and only wanting to speak to ekin-su #cbbuk."

"I KNEW Louis Walsh would be like this. I knew he was be #CBB #CBBUK."

"Louis Walsh kicking Lauren out the bed just an hour after meeting each other #CBBUK."

But ahead of going into the Celebrity Big Brother house, Walsh had said sharing a bedroom with so many people was what scared him the most about the experience. Of what scared him, he said: "Sharing a bedroom with so many other people, I’ve not done that since boarding school, and I hated it then."

So perhaps this outburst was a one off? We can't wait to see how it pans out.

Does reality TV always need a villain?

When it comes to reality TV, bosses are always on the lookout for a villain within the cast. Edward Coram James, CEO of PR agency Go Up, has opened up about why TV bosses create villains in reality series. He previously told Yahoo: "The editors don't always care all that much about presenting people in a fair and rounded manner.

"They care about creating addictive television. And, sadly, they often determine that for television to be addictive, they need a hero and a villain. Farida may well look back on the final cut of Big Brother and feel that, sure, she could have done things better. But she wasn't nearly as bad as the editors made her out to be."

Arguably the first ever reality TV villain was born out of Big Brother. Famously, Nick Bateman became known as "Nasty Nick" for his antics in the Big Brother house and he remains one of the most iconic villains on TV.

Viewers were fascinated watching as Nasty Nick tried to influence other housemates when it came to their nominations. In the end, Nasty Nick was disqualified but he cemented his name in the showbiz world as a TV villain. Now we see TV villains across all reality shows from Celebrity Big Brother to Love Island.
