Stars of stage and screen were among those who took to social media to express their shock and disbelief following the suicide bombing that left 22 dead, and dozens more injured, during an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena on Monday night.

Ms Grande herself, who had left the stage moment before the explosion, sounded stunned in her simply-worded tweet:

Former New Order bassist Peter Hook, revealed his daughter had been at the concert, but was unhurt:

James Corden, presenting The Late Late Show, said he was shocked to hear the news as he paid tribute to the city and people of Manchester.

"It shocks me every time we hear this sort of news that attacks like this can happen, but especially when there will be so many children at this concert tonight.

"And I'm telling you, a more tight-knit group of people you will be hard pressed to find. Strong, proud, caring people with community at its core."And if it was even possible, the spirit of the people of Manchester will grow even stronger this evening.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the everyone in Manchester tonight."
