Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in SF? Watch out for these road closures

(KRON) — The San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will consist of approximately 110 floats, will begin at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday. The main areas affected in the city are the Financial District, Civic center, and South of Market (SoMa).

The parade will form along 2nd Street, Market Street, and Civic Center Plaza. Streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Muni will reroute its buses.

The following streets will be closed to all traffic, including Muni vehicles, beginning at 10 am:

  • Market between Sansome and 8th streets

  • 2nd St. between Market and Harrison streets

  • Polk between McAllister to Grove

  • Grove between Larkin Street and Van Ness Avenue

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority (SFMTA) said all streets will reopen after the parade is cleared and the streets are cleaned at approximately 3:30 p.m.

SFMTA says the easiest way to Civic Center Plaza is via the Market Street Subway. BART may also be taken to the Civic Center/UN Plaza station.

As for muni, some routes will switch back — changing from inbound to outbound — before they reach Market Street. Some routes will operate on Mission Street instead. Most routes that cross Market Street will be rerouted around the event areas.

Reroutes start at different times, but all service will return to normal once Market Street is clear, SFMTA said. You can find more details of the road closures and Muni impacts for St. Patrick’s Day here.
