SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Easter mass services were held Sunday morning around the world, and parishioners in Lackawanna County were sure to make it out for the final day of holy week.

Bishop Joseph Bambera led the service at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton.

Easter Mass is one of the most important dates on the liturgical calendar, celebrating what the faithful believe was Jesus’ resurrection after his crucifixion.

Many take time on the holiday to reflect upon the blessings in their life.

“It’s a great day, Easter Sunday certainly at St. Peter’s Cathedral with the bishop. Wonderful mass it’s a great day to reflect on your religion and be thankful for so much that we have in our lives,” said Dunmore resident Gene Cosgrove

People packed the pews in observance of the holiday, which is no surprise as easter sees one of the highest attendance rates in the church.
