Celebrating 911 dispatchers for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJMN) – The second week of April is known as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

This week is meant to celebrate and appreciate all dispatchers and call takers for public safety. Lead Dispatcher at MSP Negaunee Post, Hannah Bedford says “it is stressful, there are some hard calls, but I love it.”

“It is like a week of appreciation for us, said Bedford. “I think most people do not realize is that 9-1-1 is there until they absolutely have to use it, and usually it is the worst day of their life when they use it. So, no one thinks about the job as a career field or anything, so when they highlight it, it puts it out there more cause honestly, I did not even think about it as a job until I started here. Never in a million years did it cross my mind because it is something that is not in the forefront of people’s minds.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week happens from April 14th – April 20th.
