Not all dads are the same, and neither are yearly Father’s Day gifts. With the holiday fast approaching, daughters and sons are in search of the perfect gift to put a smile on dad’s face. From fun outdoor activities to simpler gifts, here are some of the best ideas to celebrate Michigan dads this Father’s Day:
If your father is a sports fan, a trip to Comerica Park for a Detroit Tigers game is sure to brighten his day. The sounds of crowds cheering and the crack of the bat with the strong smells of hotdogs and stadium food can’t be beaten. The Tigers play away this weekend, but they return for six consecutive home games beginning Monday, June 19, and ending June 25. They are scheduled to play the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins. For more, click here.
Drive an Indy car
If your father is a fan of cars — maybe even still geeked up from the Detroit Grand Prix — book him a spot at the Michigan International Speedway, where he’ll have the chance to drive an Indy-style race car. Hosted by Virgin Experience Gifts, a one-hour training session will be given prior to the race. The driver will then get on the track for a timed session and communicate with a racing instructor through a radio system. There are eight packages available starting at $495.
Go to Brunch
The Whitney is offering a Father's Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 18. A three-course meal will be offered and champagne will be included.
Located in downtown Detroit, Dime Store serves brunch all day from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. They have plenty of options to choose from including biscuits and gravy, bennys and omelets.
On Sunday, MI.MOSA is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Breakfast items on the menu include Oreo pancakes or French toast, eggs benedict and steak and eggs. The restaurant is located in Farmington.
Zip lining is exhilarating and fun as people fly through the air at high speeds, taking in outdoor scenery. It is also safe for those who meet the weight and height requirements.
There are plenty of places in metro Detroit to go zip lining this Father's Day. Some popular locations are Treerunner Adventure Park located in West Bloomfield and Rochester, and the Howell Nature Center.
For the dads that enjoy fishing, there are numerous spots in the area perfect for the occasion. Some locations include William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor, Bishop Park, Belleville Lake and Lake St. Clair.
For children who might not enjoy fishing themselves, other gifts can be purchased such as rods, reels, a cooler, etc.
