Celebrate Children's Book Day at Story Elementary

Mar. 25—Palestine Independent School District invites the community to help celebrate our emergent bilingual students and families during a Dia del Nino y el Libro from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 in the Story Elementary parking lot.

According to Event Coordinator Cynthia Painter, those in attendance will enjoy fun activities including Palestine Independent School District activities and booths, story time, music, games, along with vendors, food trucks and Christus Life Flight.

Dia del Nino y el Libro translates "Children's Book Day." Emergent bilinguals are students who are continuing to develop their home language while learning an additional language. Many times these students are also helping their parents to learn to read, write and speak an additional language as well. Events like these help to instill confidence in what they are learning and to also develop a positive identity in their own cultural heritage.

"The district is pleased to have a team who has planned with our parents, students and community in mind for Children's Book Day," said Larissa Loveless, PISD Director of Public Relations. "They have worked to create opportunities for all to have an enjoyable time as they experience learning activities, receive information important future learning and planning and fellowship. Come for a brief time or stay for the evening but most important enjoy each other and the evening."
