Cedar Park falls to No. 1 Mansfield Timberview in 5A girls hoops semifinals

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Cedar Park’s run through the 5A girls basketball tournament came to an end Thursday at the Alamodome in a 67-45 semifinal loss to top-ranked Mansfield Timberview.

Timberview rode a huge second quarter, outscoring the Timberwolves 19-4, to a 34-13 halftime lead. Timberview outrebounded Cedar Park 51-29 including 20-9 on the offensive end to score 21 second-chance points. Cedar Park shot 31% from the field while Timberview connected on 35% of its shots and was 18 of 22 from the foul line.

Kennedy Carlyle turned in a tremendous game for Cedar Park, scoring a game-high 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting including a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. Mariah Davis scored 10 points but struggled from the field, shooting 4 of 17. She also had five rebounds and five assists. Hope Edwards chipped in eight points.

For Timberview, Brooklyn Terry and Kamryn Wilson each had 13 points while Tamaiya Mims contributed 11. Wilson notched a double-double with 12 rebounds. Chrishawn Coleman had eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Timberview.

Cedar Park’s season ends with a 27-12 record. Timberview will play for the 5A state title Saturday against Frisco Liberty. Cedar Park took out rival Glenn 45-44 in overtime to win the Region IV championship and get to the state semifinals.
