Collins, a leading moderate Republican in the U.S. Congress, questioned CDC Director Rochelle Walensky about a New York Times article that said a statistic in a CDC guideline released last month saying "less than 10 percent" of COVID-19 transmission occurred outdoors was "misleading", because some say it's actually much lower than that and closer to below 1 percent.

"It matters because it undermines public confidence in your recommendations, in the recommendations that do make sense," Collins said to Walensky.

Walensky said the statistic came from a study.
