Cavaliers suspend J.R. Smith one game for detrimental conduct just before tipoff

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without forward J.R. Smith against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. Just two hours before game-time, the team announced Smith was suspended for one game for detrimental conduct.

The team didn’t get into specifics as to what prompted the suspension, but coach Tyronn Lue said something happened with Smith after the team’s shootaround that caused them to make the move.

The 32-year-old Smith is averaging 8.3 points in 59 games this season.

Given the sudden nature of the team’s decision, there will likely be more coming on the suspension soon.
