Cattle on the road cause 3 crashes near Dodge City

FORD COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — One person was injured in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 56 in Ford County early Wednesday morning. The Ford County sheriff says each of the three vehicles involved hit cattle on the roadway.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. at U.S. 56 and County Road 107.

Sheriff Bill Carr says two of the vehicles were semis with cattle trailers. The other vehicle was a car.

According to the preliminary investigation, one semi was hauling cattle eastbound toward Dodge City. The truck crashed into cattle on the road and rolled over. The cab dislodged from the frame, and the driver was thrown out and injured. Emergency crews took the driver to a hospital. The sheriff does not know the condition of the cattle that were on the truck.

The other semi was also eastbound and hit cattle on the road. The damage brought it to a stop, but the truck stayed upright. The driver was not hurt.

Several cattle died in the crashes. The sheriff did not say why the cattle were on the road. KSN News has asked for more information. We will update this story if we get more details.
