Catholic Charities Empty Bowls Luncheon returns next week

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Catholic Charities will be hosting its 19th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon next Tuesday to raise awareness of the effects of hunger and poverty in the community.

The event will take place on Tuesday, March 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Notre Dame High School. This year’s event is sponsored by The Hilliard Corporation, Chemung Canal Trust Company, Chemung Supply and Wegmans.

New housing project expected to come to Elmira

The event will include lunch, a brief presentation and a raffle of a commemorative bowl that was donated by the Corning Museum of Glass.

The Empty Bowls Luncheon is an event that collaborates with local potters who create handmade bowls that will be given to each attendee who donates $50 or more. Catholic Charities is also partnering with the owners of Barb’s Soup’s On Cafe, who will offer guests homemade soup.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person for lunch and a homemade soup bowl that is created by a local art student. A limited number of tickets will be sold, so make sure to get yours now if you’re interested in attending.

The Empty Bowls Luncheon is the Elmira Community Kitchen’s largest fundraiser, raising over $280,000 toward local poverty relief efforts over the last 18 years.
