With the return of playoff hockey to Nashville just one season after the Predators unexpected march to the Stanley Cup final brings another annual tradition to the Music City.

Catfish.

After the first fish carcass of the postseason was chucked onto the ice during the first game of Nashville’s opening-round series against Colorado — bearing a festive party hat and bow-tie, no less — another was heaved from the stands during the Predators 5-4 victory in Game 2.

Game 2’s catch of the day featured a blue “Pekka For Vezina” shirt and a necklace which appears to be a yellow wall. The Predators netminder should indeed be a finalist when the NHL announces its award nominees in the couple of weeks and Rinne’s got a legitimate chance to win it. He finished the regular season ranking third in save percentage (.927), second in wins (42) and tied for first in shutouts (8).

When it comes to NHL award selection, this catfish knows what’s up.
