United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer sentenced 39-year-old Matthew John Cobb to 70 months in prison.

The sentencing comes after Cobb, who had several prior felony convictions including a previous conviction of felon in possession of a firearm, fled from Conecuh County deputies who were working traffic in Castleberry. Cobb sped away from deputies in a white Dodge before abandoning his vehicle and running into the woods.

When Alabama Department of Corrections dogs eventually tracked Cobb down, they found him lying on top of a .38 revolver. Authorities said they also found ammunition matching the revolver inside his vehicle.

In addition to his 70-month prison sentence, Judge Moorer also ordered Cobb to serve a three-year term of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $100 in special mandatory assessments and forfeit the firearm to the United States.
