Voting has begun for Rockford Register Star Student of the Week for April 29-May 3.

This week's finalists for Rockford Register Star Student of the Week include a student who used her newly acquired CPR skills to save a life, a student who learned sign language to help deaf people in the community and another student who is a member of National Honor Society.

We publish a list of finalists every Monday at rrstar.com and every Tuesday in the Rockford Register Star. Readers can vote in our Student of the Week poll online as many times as they wish until 11 a.m. Thursday.

The winner of the online poll is announced at rrstar.com every Friday and in print Sunday in the Rockford Register Star.

Here are this week's finalists.

Cassidy Davenport, Hononegah

Hononegah High School senior Cassidy Davenport is a hard worker in the classroom and an incredible bowler. She helped her team to strong finishes in the IHSA State Tournament, placing 8th in 2023 and 7th in 2024 when she took 17th as an individual. Davenport recently learned CPR and was able to use her training to help save the life of a choking child during a visit to the Target store in Machesney Park. She was recognized last week at the Winnebago County Board meeting for her heroic actions.

Jaidyn Eisman, East

Jaidyn Eisman

Jaidyn Eisman is junior at East High School where she is part of the school's sign language program. In 2023, she joined the American Sign Language Honor Society and fulfilled her volunteer service with RAMP. She helped organize a movie night at AMC 16 with open captioning making it possible for the deaf community to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Not only does she work many hours a week at her job, but she also maintains a 3.8 GPA. Eisman is well liked by her peers and teachers as she shows kindness and is the very definition of capability, perseverance and grit.

John Kerestes, Boylan

John Kerestes

John Kerestes is an engaged, easy-going senior at Boylan Catholic High School. He is a key contributor on the varsity baseball and basketball teams and has been a member of the National Honor Society since junior year. Kerestes is very curious, polite, and tries to find goodness in every day. While most of his peers have senioritis, he is reminding everyone to cherish their last days of high school. He is kind, approachable, and sees the best in everyone.
