Cass Co. sheriff won’t seek reelection

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Cass County sheriff will not seek a third term.

Sheriff Richard Behnke announced the decision Thursday in a release, saying he felt it was time to start another chapter in life. He has held the position for eight years.

Behnke started as a Cass County deputy in 1987, the release says. Before taking on the role of sheriff, he was the undersheriff for 13 years.

Behnke said he plans to stay in Cass County.
