Case Closed: After 14 years, stolen barbershop pole is returned to owner

HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — If you’ve ever been to Van’s Barber Shop in downtown Hartselle, you know it’s a very eccentric and well-decorated spot.

You may also know that back in 2010, the outside barbershop pole was stolen.

Owner Van Stisher didn’t know who took it or where it was, and after over a decade, hope was seemingly lost. That was until a few weeks ago when a customer told her that he knew where it was and was going to get it back.

“What?” said Stisher, “He said I know where it is and I know who got it and I’m going to get it back for ya.”

On Tuesday, the pole was returned to her.

“My heart was beating like a hundred miles an hour over a barber pole really but I told him I don’t really know what to say thank you is just not enough it really means the world to me,” said Stisher.

The pole had been a part of the shop well before Stisher took over ownership over 20 years ago, so to her it’s more than just a pole; it’s Hartselle’s history.

“I don’t know what to say…I mean it’s crazy something like that meant so much to me,” said Stisher.

“It’s been passed on and passed on and I got the honor of carrying on this barbershop you know,” she added.

Stisher also plans to add the pole to her wall of decorations and memorabilia inside her barbershop.
