Carthage City Council attempts suspension of city attorney despite resignation

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage City Council members attempt to suspend their city attorney – just two weeks after he tendered his resignation.

In an emotional statement to the people of Carthage at last night’s council meeting – City Attorney Nate Dally expressed sorrow about leaving his position and what it has meant to him.

“It was more to me than just another job, as it’s a homecoming to me… this is my hometown. And I had a chance to serve this city that raised me, shaped me, and became the very part of my fabric that makes me who I am,” said Nate Dally, Carthage City Attorney.

Dally resigned on April 12, just two days after the new City Council voted to fire him and City Administrator Greg Dagnan.

Mayor Dan Rife told council members he would not agree to terminate Dally or Dagnan.

After a closed session meeting last night – some of the council members passed a motion asking the mayor to immediately suspend Dally for what they called an ethics violation.

Although the motion passed – once again Mayor Rife did not agree to the suspension – so Dally will continue to serve out the last few weeks of his 30-day notice.
