Carter Smyre Jr., father of former Georgia Rep. Calvin Smyre passes away at 98

GEORGIA (WRBL) – Sadly, Carter Smyre Jr. passed away on Friday at Piedmont Columbus Regional. Smyre Jr. was the father of former Georgia State Representative Calvin Smyre.

Smyre Jr., a Griffin, Georgia, native, graduated from Fort Rucker and served 24 years in the U.S. Army before he retired as Chief Warrant Officer 3.

After his serving in the army, Smyre Jr. went on to create and own a realty company along with receiving an appointment to the Georgia Residential Financial Authority

Carter Smyre Jr.’s funeral is scheduled to be held on Friday at the Greater Ward Chapel A.M.E. on Talbotton Road at noon.
