Cars partially submerged due to flooding in San Jose

(KRON) — After a flood advisory was announced earlier in the day, dozens of cars were found partially submerged by the rain in south San Jose on Wednesday, said Colin Heyne, a representative from San Jose’s Department of Transportation.

Almaden Valley residents initially noticed a period of heavy rain in the hills. The downpour caused an unusually heavy water flow to run down the hillside into a residential neighborhood.

San Jose Department of Transportation crews went out to help neighbors create a berm out of sandbags and ensure that water could flow efficiently through the storm inlets on the street. Crews were also seen unclogging storm drains and catch basins.

Here’s what Heyne had to say to KRON4 readers:

We encourage the San José public to call Department of Transportation dispatch, 24/7, at 408-794-1900 to report localized flooding, backed-up storm drains, down trees, and other non-life-threatening storm issues.

Colin Heyne, City of San José Department of Transportation

The flood advisory is set to continue until 11:30 pm Wednesday.
