Carrie Underwood may have one of the more glamorous jobs available, but she still struggles to balance work and motherhood.

As far as careers go, being a globe-trotting, award-winning performer doesn't exactly call to mind the adjectives "rough" or "stressful." But, for Underwood, adding a baby to her hectic life while maintaining her busy performance schedule wasn't seamless. During an interview aboard a Carnival Cruise Ship at Catalina Island, California (where she was performing for military families as part of her Operation Homefront duties), the Grammy-winning singer opened up about her life as a working mom.

"Our whole life has changed," the singer told People. "I remember when we first found out we were gonna have him, it [was] like, 'How are we gonna do this? Our lives are so crazy as it is.'"

But Isaiah Fisher, Underwood's son with professional ice hockey player Mike Fisher, is now 2 - and based on his mom's social media updates, at least, things appear to be going pretty well for him. Underwood's trick for making sure she devotes enough time to parenting? You "just make room," she said. "You learn how important that family time is, and to be able to spend time and carve out some of that and maybe get to go on vacation and maybe get to go on a cruise - that stuff is so important to, like I said, make time for family. That's what it's all about."

For Underwood, "making room" can mean doing something as simple as working out with her toddler, who she joked was a "pretty good workout buddy," despite his "short attention span."

Underwood, who recently revealed that she's on "God's good timing" when it comes to having a second kid, is currently busy writing new music for her upcoming album.
