Carol McGiffin: ‘Having Breast Cancer Was Never A Battle’

Earlier this year Carol McGiffin shocked us all when she revealed that she had been secretly fighting stage three breast cancer - undergoing a mastectomy, six doses of chemotherapy, and fifteen sessions of radiotherapy.

Thankfully, the Loose Women star managed to beat the life-threatening illness and has admitted that as fab as it is to now be able to go out partying with her pals, coping with cancer was never ‘a battle’ for her.

Speaking to Closer magazine, the 55-year-old explained: “It’s great to go out and enjoy a meal and a bottle of wine with friends, without falling asleep at 9pm.

“I don’t go out as much as I used to but I still love a party. I’m not ready to start knitting yet.

“I never thought of cancer as a battle. It can become a fight if you think you might lose it but, for me, it was always just about getting better.”

Cor, talk about inspiring words.

Carol went on to add: “I tried not to think about if - if you think about something too much, it becomes terrifying.”

Since going public with her diagnosis back in February, Carol has acknowledged just how ruddy brilliant her fiancé, Mark Cassidy, has been since she first started treatment in April 2014.

And, unsurprisingly, the star was full of even more praise for Mark this time around, sharing: “He offered to shave his head too but I said don’t be daft.

“It won’t make me feel any better seeing you with no hair.”

Well, at least she didn’t lose her honesty, eh?

It’s good to have you back to your old self, Carol - you might not have seen it as a battle, but you definitely came out fighting.
