Carlsbad man accused of shooting minor to death arrested and charged with murder
A Carlsbad man was arrested and charged with murder after a fatal shooting Wednesday night in a residential area of the city.
Arik Garcia, 21, was arrested after Carlsbad police officers responded to a report of a boy suffering a gunshot wound at about 4:23 p.m. in the 800 block of Hueco Street.
Carlsbad Police Lt. Andrew Swanson said the victim was a minor and thus would not be identified by law enforcement.

Initial reports from police did not describe Garcia's relationship to the victim, the victim's age, or the events leading up to the shooting.
Emergency responders rendered aid to the boy and he was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
An investigation was launched by the Carlsbad Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, police said, and Garcia was identified as the shooter through interviews and other "investigative techniques."

He was charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Eddy County Detention Center records indicate Garcia was arrested at about 8:15 p.m. and booked at the detention center March 29.
He was being held on no bail or bond, records show.
