Charges filed against suspect in Carl Junction man’s stabbing death

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Charges are filed against a man allegedly involved with the stabbing death of a Carl Junction man.

The Jasper County Prosecutor filed charges on Scott Burleson for 2nd degree murder, 1st degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action, the sheriff’s office announced Tuesday.

Burleson has yet to be apprehended. Authorities are also searching for another person of interest, Paul Phillips Jr., is also being sought at this time. They are both considered dangerous.

Carl Junction man dies from stabbing, authorities searching for two POI

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — A Carl Junction man dies after a weekend stabbing in Jasper County.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an address near 7th St. & State Line Ave. following an assault Saturday evening. Officers found Seth Langford, 36, at the scene, suffering from severe, stabbing related injuries

Langford later died from those injuries.

Detectives continue to search for two persons of interest. They are Scott Burleson, 30, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma and Paul Phillips, Jr., 36, of Seneca.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Both men have extensive criminal records.

Phillips is currently on probation for second degree assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was also convicted of receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

Burleson’s criminal record includes convictions in Oklahoma for grand larceny, larceny, receiving and possession of stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance. In Missouri Burleson was convicted of receiving stolen property and is currently charged with forgery.

Authorities issued a warrant for Burleson’s arrest after he failed to appear for a court appearance in Newton County on the forgery charge.
