We Care Park to be honored with historical marker

Nov. 21—An historical marker commemorating We Care Park and the volunteers who made the Christmas park possible will be installed next week.

A dedication of the marker will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at 111 E. Gano St., near the intersection of Gano Street and the city's Industrial Heritage Trail and just a few steps from We Care Park.

The marker, according to a city of Kokomo press release, will "acknowledge the volunteers who helped to create the Christmas landmark known as 'We Care Park.'"

We Care Park, started by Mike and Nancy Wyant 30 years ago and adjacent to their former home on city's north side, held its final year of operation in 2020. That year the park raised more than $118,000, the most money its ever raised. During its tenure, the park raised nearly $1 million for We Care.
