Cardinals fan with down syndrome celebrates milestone 70th birthday at Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS — Last weekend, Jimmy Santen celebrated a milestone birthday.

Jimmy, a huge Cardinals fan who lives with Down Syndrome, turned 70, and he celebrated his birthday with about 50 friends at Busch Stadium while the Cardinals played against the White Sox.

Despite the genetic disorder, Jimmy continues to defy time and age. The life expectancy for an individual living with Down Syndrome is usually 60 years, but many, like Jimmy, do live into their seventies.

Jimmy resides in an inclusive community called L’Arche St. Louis home in Maplewood. L’Arche St. Louis is a disability nonprofit that offers independent living programs and social activities for adults with intellectual disabilities.
