Car Slams Into Jeep Running Red Light, Saving Phoenix Pedestrians

A collision caused by a Jeep that broke a red light in Phoenix, Arizona, may have saved the life of a couple pushing a stroller across the street, police in the city have said.

Phoenix Police have released video of the October 14 incident, in which a Jeep is seen breaking the lights on 53rd Avenue in the city. The Jeep is seen speeding directly towards the couple and the stroller, when it is hit from the side by a Chevy Cruz that had taken the green light across the intersection.

The collision caused the Jeep to narrowly avoid hitting the pedestrians.

Police said the Jeep was driven by Ernesto Otanez Oveso, 23. They said he and a female passenger “took off running” from the scene. Otanez Oveso was charged with DUI and aggravated assault, after he allegedly turned on a witness who was following him, police said.
