Car plunges into Pine Run in downtown Sharon

Apr. 13—SHARON — A man drove off the road and into the Pine Run Friday night in Sharon, according to the Sharon Fire Department.

The man likely lost control due to the heavy rain, but it is unknown if any other factors were involved at this time, according to Fire Chief Bob Fiscus.

It happened at East Connelly Boulevard and South Sharpville Avenue, where the streambed is a few feet wide and normally just a few inches deep, though most area waterways have been swollen after days of rain.

The fire department and police were dispatched at 10:52 p.m. Friday to reports of a car that left the roadway and submerged into the creek with a man inside.

Once the fire department was on scene, they saw the water had risen to the windows. They quickly were able to break the back window and extract the man from the driver seat.

He was taken to a nearby hospital by McGonigle Ambulance Service, and Fiscus said the man did not seem to sustain any life-threatening injury.

According to Police Chief Edward Stabile, the car was left in the water overnight as it was too dangerous to remove at night. The car was removed around noon on Saturday.

"I just want to thank our team, the police department and McGonigle Ambulance for the efforts of working together," Fiscus said. "We were able to respond quickly and efficiently."
