Car crashes into Watertown garage, driver flees scene

Apr. 29—WATERTOWN — The driver of the vehicle who crashed into a garage early Sunday morning fled the scene, according to a Facebook post from the City of Watertown Fire Department.

The post states that fire units found a vehicle that had driven through the side wall of a detached garage at the corner of South Hamilton and Franklin streets. Prior to the fire department arriving on scene, the driver had left, officials said.

The fire department said there was significant damage to the garage making it unstable with a high probability of collapsing when the vehicle was removed, resulting in the C Platoon responding and deploying the technical rescue equipment to stabilize the structure so the vehicle could be removed without further damage to the garage.

They used paratech struts to stabilize the building and wooden shores were built that could be left in place until the owners can make repairs and allow the occupants to remove property from inside.

The vehicle was taken out by Loads Wrecker and removed from the scene. Units were on scene for around two hours.

Watertown Police Lt. Jason Badalato said Monday afternoon that no arrests have been made and the incident being investigated.
