Car crashes onto school property in Niles, firearm, narcotics recovered: PD

NILES, Ill. — An investigation is underway after a crash ended with a vehicle hitting a tree before stopping on a school’s property. A firearm and narcotics were recovered in the vehicle, police said.

According to the Niles Police Department, a Subaru being driven by a 35-year-old man was driving westbound on Oakton Street when it was rearended by an Alfa-Romeo being driven by a 36-year-old man around 12:39 a.m.

There was also a 34-year-old passenger in the Alfa Romeo.

Police said after the crash, the Alfa Romeo drove off the roadway and into a fence that surrounds Emerson School. The car hit a tree on the school’s property and came to a stop.

The driver and passenger of the Alfa Romeo were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and the driver of the Subaru was uninjured.

A firearm and narcotics were recovered from the Alfa Romeo and have been taken in for evidence.

Oakton Street was closed between Cumberland Avenue and Prospect Street.

Niles Police is in contact with Emerson School which decided to have a delayed start time.
