Caps cherry blossom jersey, merchandise unveiled

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Washington Capitals is no stranger to celebrating D.C.’s and the DMVs iconic cherry blossoms, and the celebration includes a special Cherry Blossom Capitals jersey which the hockey team unveiled Friday.

Taylor Kampa Olson of TKOPaintings, an artist based in Washington, D.C., designed the jersey which is being auctioned off to benefit Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation (MSE Foundation).

The foundation says its mission, among other things, is to make “the region a better place for all by supporting game-changing solutions for our community.” It raises money and provides grants to nonprofits.

The auction for the jersey opens at 11 a.m. on March 24. It runs through 3 p.m. on April 2. The online auction can be accessed here. It includes other items for bidding.

How to save when traveling to DC’s Cherry Blossom Festival this year

The jersey has a sky blue background and features hand-drawn blossoms incorporated into the Capitals logo. The team said the white outlines symbolize the blossoms beginning to bloom. The design continues into the numbering, which features the cherry branches, buds and blossoms.

The Capitals said an assortment of cherry blossom merchandise is available at the Team Store at Capital One Arena and at the Team Store at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Merchandise also is available online.
