Candidate filing period opens Monday in Clark County

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The candidate filing period begins Monday, March 4, at the Clark County Government Center.

Candidates for most races in this year’s election must file paperwork with the Clark County Election Department, which will accept submissions in the Pueblo Room on the first floor of the Government Center at 500 Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas. Paperwork will be accepted 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through Friday, March 15.

More information is available online at the Clark County website: https://www.clarkcountynv.gov/government/departments/elections/services/candidate_filing.php. This year, the county is offering options to make an appointment and to initiate the process online.

The filing period applies to non-judicial offices. Filing for judicial offices took place in January.

Candidates for city offices such as mayor, city council and municipal court judge must file with their respective cities.

Candidates for U.S. Senate, Congressional District 4, State Senate District 19, Assembly District 36 and the State Board of Education District 4 need to file at the Secretary of State’s locations in North Las Vegas (2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North) or in Carson City (101 N. Carson St., Suite 3). Candidates for all other races can file at the Clark County Government Center. The county has a candidate guide online that provides more information on where to file.

All candidates also have the option to initiate the filing process on the Secretary of State’s website, but additional steps are required to complete it. Instructions can be found at https://www.nvsos.gov/SOSCandidateServices/AnonymousAccess/CF/CandidateFiling.aspx.

The 2024 primary election is on June 11, with early voting from May 25 to June 7. If only one candidate files from his/her party in a partisan contest, then that candidate will automatically appear on the general election ballot.

The general election is Nov. 5, with early voting from Oct. 19 to Nov. 1.

Residents are encouraged to check their voter registration status at https://clarkcountynv.gov/government/departments/elections/index.php to make sure they will be able to vote.
