Candace Cameron Bure on the 'Intimidating' Job of Hosting The View in an Election Year

Anyone joining the opinionated hosting panel on The View knows to expect passionate and sometimes heated exchanges to erupt at the table, but co-host Candace Cameron Bure admits that the current election year has made the discourse even more intense.

"It can be incredibly intimidating at times, but it's keeping me on my toes," said Cameron Bure, 40, whose religious beliefs and conservative politics often led her into vigorous back-and-forths with her co-hosts.

The Fuller House star told PEOPLE at the summer media event for the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries that she's keeping herself informed to be able to exchange points and counterpoints with her co-hosts – especially with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, who tend to have more liberal points of view.

"I've got to read the news every night, and I have to have an opinion about things, so I love the job and being able to do that," she said. "But some days I can handle it better than others. It depends on what Whoopi and Joy have to say!"

While she spars over hot topics at one job, Bure reports that there's a far less contentious vibe on the set of her other gig at Fuller House, which has begun filming its second season for Netflix. While plotlines are top-secret, she reveals that guest stars have been lining to drop in on the Tanner family.

"We have some really, really fun guest cast on this season," she said. "[Some] that are brand new and very current today, and then some that are throwback guest [actors] that people will love. … People are now knocking at the door going, 'Oh, I want to be a part of that!' So it's fun for us."

The View airs weekdays (11 a.m ET) on ABC, and Fuller House season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
