Man City's Premier League streak is impressive - but Pep's boys have a long way to go to beat these records

A new Premier League record perhaps, but in terms of world domination, Manchester City are only halfway there!

Pep Guardiola’s near perfect side claimed the record outright after overhauling Arsenal’s class of 2002 at Swansea City last night.

Their 4-0 success in south Wales made it 15 league wins in a row as two-goal David Silva led the charge with Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero making sure.

Many are starting to wonder if City are now the slickest team in world football after their relentless run.

Some are even asking the question that if Guardiola’s men are the best the Premier League has seen in its quarter of a century existence.

Those of course are up for debate but what’s not is that City has some way to go to take their English record onto the world stage.

Benfica are the ones to catch. There was an English subplot to their run from 1971-73 winning sequence, coach Jimmy Hagan played his part as the Eagles got their claws into the record books.

Luka Modric had a roll in dazzling Dinamo Zagreb’s 28-game streak in 2006-07, but they fell just one game short of equalling the record.

Even in Scotland, Celtic’s 25-game winning run is some going. The British record was set in 2004 under Martin O’Neill’s charge, and now City have their eyes on that.

But can they really challenge the top end record holders in a league which is the most demanding in the world?

Well, if they can skip past Tottenham at the Etihad this weekend, who knows? Their fixtures for the rest of 2017 are attractive.

They then play out-of-form Bournemouth and Newcastle, followed by Crystal Palace. January sees Watford – who they hit five past away from home in September – Newcastle again, and West Brom with a trip to Liverpool tucked in between.
