Camper explodes, injuring two in Gaston County
A camper on a property north of McAdenville exploded, injuring two people and leaving one with severe burns, according to Gaston County officials.
The camper exploded just after 10 p.m. Monday outside a home on Ferrell Grove Road, just off Hickory Grove Road, said Adam Gaub, Gaston County's public information officer.
A man and a woman were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, and the man had second- and third-degree burns to their head and face. The man was transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's burn center.
A worker at the property Tuesday morning said that the people who were hurt worked for the property owner.
The Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services investigated the fire and determined the cause of the explosion to be a propane leak from a hot water heater. In addition to the significant damage to the camper, the explosion blew out windows and caused some additional damage to the house next to the camper.
