Campbell Soup details timing to close Charlotte corporate office. Over 50 jobs lost.

Campbell Soup Co. has detailed its plans to permanently close the Ballantyne corporate office just weeks after announcing it would also close one of several manufacturing plants in Charlotte.

In January, Campbell Soup announced that the 13515 Ballantyne Corporate Place office would be closing this year as it consolidates corporate offices at its Camden, New Jersey, headquarters.

The soup and snack maker detailed those plans impacting 166 workers in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) filed this week with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The majority of its 166 corporate employees will relocate to other company offices or work remotely, Campbell’s human resources director Joanna Page said in the letter to the state.

The company has provided eligible employees with comprehensive relocation support if they chose to relocate to Campbell headquarters in New Jersey, Campbell Soup Co. spokeswoman Emma Wright previously told The Charlotte Observer.

Nearly 100 people will remain in the Charlotte area, Campbell’s spokeswoman Michelle Reardon told The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday. Several others will relocate.

But 55 employees who chose not to relocate will be offered severance and other eligible benefits, Page said.

The office will be closed in two phases starting Sept. 15 and Sept. 29 with 37 terminations, followed by 18 more in November and ending Dec. 1, according to the WARN report.

\Campbell leases the building in Ballantyne, and it’s now available for sublease, Reardon said.

Emerald Nuts plant closing too

Just last month, Snyder’s-Lance Inc., owned by Campbell Soup Co., said it will close its Emerald Nuts manufacturing plant at 6800 Crump Road. The layoff of 125 employees is effective Aug. 25 through Sept. 7 when the plant is expected to close.

However, the company has placed 64 employees from the Emerald plant at other jobs in Charlotte, Reardon previously told The Charlotte Observer.

In May, Campbell sold its Emerald Nuts business to Minneapolis-based Flagstone Food. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Campbell snacks division operates multiple locations throughout the Charlotte area.

add//The office and plant closures do not affect the over 1,400 employees at Campbell’s Charlotte manufacturing campus or distribution center, Reardon said Wednesday.

update//The company has two plants that make Lance sandwich crackers and a variety of potato chips, as well as several warehouses throughout the Charlotte area, according to Campbell.

In 2018, Campbell Soup Co. purchased Snyder’s-Lance for $6.1 billion.
