Camp Resolution was ordered to close but may now get a reprieve from Sacramento officials

(FOX40.COM) — A self-run homeless encampment in north Sacramento known as Camp Resolution is possibly getting a reprieve several weeks after it was told it would have to shut down this month.

On Thursday, city officials sent a letter to Safe Ground Sacramento, the group that runs the encampment, saying that they are holding off on a lease termination if various conditions are met.

The city previously notified Safe Ground Sacramento that occupants of Camp Resolution, located at 2225 Colfax Road, would have to leave and remove their belongings by May 16 because of a lease termination at the start of June.

The city’s letter says it is willing to let the community stay so long as people reside only in vehicles parked on the paved areas of the location, among other requirements.

Officials said representatives of the group and the encampment must agree to negotiate starting the week of May 6.

Negotiations will include a plan involving possible construction of affordable housing on the site and alternatives, temporary or permanent living arrangements for residents, according to the letter.

The city said staff from Sacramento’s Department of Community Response and the Sacramento County HEART behavioral health team must be allowed to enroll residents in services to facilitate their placement in shelter or housing.

Camp Resolution is a self-governed community of around 50 residents who reside in RVs, vehicles and trailers, but not tents.
