Camp County lawyer returns collectible pistol worth $20k to original owner after legal battle

CAMP COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – After three decades, a man has been reunited with his pistol worth more than $20,000, following a legal battle that culminated in Pittsburg on Friday.

The collectible pistol, that was initially reported stolen in Indiana 30 years ago, made its way to East Texas where a Camp County attorney purchased the firearm in a pawn shop, causing a legal battle. The attorney argued he had rightfully bought the gun.

In September 2023, a judge ruled the pistol had to be returned to the original owner, but when KETK first reported on the story, the ruling had not been honored.

Gordon Allen, a World War II veteran and original owner of the pistol, travelled from Indiana to the county courthouse on Friday where the attorney agreed to return the firearm and dismiss the case.

“Sometimes the wheels of justice move slow but they still move, and everything in the end turned out fine,” Allen said.
