Will cameras provide clues in South Peters Street shooting?

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — One week ago Sunday night, a shooting outside of a club in the Warehouse District killed one woman and injured 11 other people. So far, police have announced no motive or suspect. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice.

The crime happened a little before midnight on Sunday night, April 14, in the 800 block of South Peters Street.

There are multiple surveillance cameras in the area. One of them is owned by the City of New Orleans and is monitored by the Real Time Crime Center. One year ago, in another Wheel of Justice report, we showed you some footage that was recorded by that same camera. It was part of a burglary investigations.

There are also multiple security cameras in front of the business. But because it was nighttime and it’s uncertain if the cameras were even pointing in the optimal direction, there’s no way to know without comment from police on whether the video is aiding the investigation.

The NOPD has not commented on what footage any of the cameras may have recorded. But during a news conference after the shooting, NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that detectives are investigating.

“We were able to look at those cameras,” Kirkpatrick told reporters.

So far, more than 460 people have been booked after their cases rolled on the Wheel of Justice.
