Camanche to interview 3 superintendent candidates

Mar. 2—CAMANCHE — Three candidates will interview for the Camanche School District's superintendent position, the School Board decided on Wednesday. They are Mediapolis Director of Curriculum John Kerr, Las Vegas elementary school principal Lenette Reece and Camanche Middle School Principal Justin Shaffer.

John Kerr

Kerr, since July 2014, has been the Mediapolis director of curriculum. Prior to that, Kerr served as the Great Plains Area Education Agency math consultant from July 2012 to June 2014. He also served as the elementary principal for Wapello Community Schools from July 2009 to June 2012 and the high school math teacher from 1999 to 2009.

In 2004, he earned a masters degree in leadership from Viterbo University and earned his doctorate in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 2022. Kerr's interview will take place on Tuesday, March 5.

Lenette Reece

Reece's career in education up to this point has entirely been in service to the Clark County School District in Nevada. She is currently the Principal at Richard J. Rundle Elementary School in Las Vegas and has been in this position since 2016. Reece was the Assistant Principal at Laura Dearing Elementary from 2014 to 2016 and the shared Assistant Principal for one year prior at William E. Ferron and John R. Beatty Elementary Schools. Reece has a master's degree in education and doctorate in educational leadership from Phoenix University. Reece's interview will be on March 4.

Justin Shaffer

Shaffer is the current principal of Camanche Middle School and has been since 2012. Shaffer served as the Camanche Middle and High School Principal from 2021 to 2023. He started his career as a co-teacher in grades five and six at Camanche from 2007 to 2012. Shaffer has a masters in educational leadership from St. Ambrose University and anticipates earning a specialist in education from Drake University in May 2024. Shaffer's interview will take place on March 4.

All candidates have asked for closed session interviews and each will be interviewed by the School District Board of Education and three focus groups consisting of selected certified and support staff, central office/department heads and administrators plus a parent/community member focus group.

It is the Board's desire after reviewing input from the focus groups and their interview with each candidate to select a new superintendent by no later than March 6. The new superintendent's duties will begin on July 1.
