Caltrans to host two ‘Dump Day’ events

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The California Department of Transportation will be holding “Dump Day” events in Kearny Mesa and Santee next weekend.

On Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to noon, local residents are allowed to get rid of unwanted items for free at two locations: the Kearny Mesa Maintenance Yard at 7181 Opportunity Road and Santee Maintenance Yard at 8502 Railroad Avenue.

Caltrans will not accept the following items:

  • Treated wood waste;

  • Construction debris (dirt, concrete, asphalt or asbestos, etc.);

  • Compressed gas or aerosol cans;

  • Hazardous waste (paint, batteries, oils, flammables, etc.);

  • Refrigerators or freezers.

Multiple dumpsters will be available to accept household waste and approved debris — up to four tires and four mattresses per household, while tires must be separated from the rims.
