From Country Living UK

  • BBC Two announce new countryside dating series inspired by Country Living magazine and The Farmer Wants a Wife.

  • The new programme, Love in the Countryside, will air in 2018 and will follow eight 'lonely hearts' looking for love.

  • You can now sign-up to take part in the programme and be considered for a date with one of the lonely hearts via the BBC Two website.

For all its rolling hills, babbling brooks and breathtaking views, the countryside can be a tricky place to find love. Until now...

Remember Country Living's BAFTA nominated dating series The Farmer Wants a Wife? It was very successful and can take credit for 18 weddings and 25 babies.

So, with that kind of match-making track record, we're confident this new BBC Two dating programme, which is inspired by Country Living magazine and its dating website Country Loving, will find a few lonely hearts their happy ending, too.

Introducing... Love in the Countryside

The new rural dating show aims to confront loneliness in rural communities and find soul mates for eight lonely hearts in the process.

The show, coming to BBC Two in January, will follow eight chosen singletons, aged between 25 and 59, on their quest to find a partner. From launching online profiles to finding a match, we will join them on their brave and heart-felt journey, including on those giddy first dates and for that all important post-date analysis.

No frolicking in the hay though, this is the BBC after all!

Ultimately, in the final episode, each lonely heart will pick their partner.

Presented by farmer's daughter Sara Cox, Love in the Countryside will bring together people of all ages, to share their love of our green pastures, as well as touch upon issues like the urban/country divide.

More than just a dating show, it will be a celebration of the British countryside for anyone whose heart is in the country.

Without further ado, let's meet the country lovers and find out how to apply…

Heather, 28, North Yorkshire

Equine Vet and horse-lover Heather lives in a farmhouse on the site of her veterinary practice - no wonder she works around the clock. As she is an elegant 6ft tall, her ideal man must be on a level with her and also enjoy the outdoors. A love for horses is negotiable.

Edward, 25, Lancashire

Dairy farmer Ed uses a Segway when milking his cattle. He definitely wants a family in the future and knows he'll be a super dad, but at the moment thinks he might spend a bit too much time around cows.

Christine, 32, Dumfries & Galloway

Presiding over a 250-acre sheep and beef farm keeps Christine pretty busy but she's a true romantic at heart. She wants a reason to get dressed up more often and to find someone to have a laugh with, as well as share the good times and bad.

Peter, 52, North Yorkshire

Dairy farmer Peter loves to dance and even knows how to waltz. He is, however, lacking a partner. He'd love to meet somebody for going out dancing and for strolls through the fields on his farm on a Sunday afternoons.

When he's not training dolphins, Will is a self-employed contractor and loves an evening in the pub. He enjoys working outdoors and having the freedom to roam. His perfect date? Clay pigeon shooting and a rugby match, obviously.

Wendy, 59, Herefordshire

Mark, 52, Norfolk

Farrier Mark's perfect day would involve shoeing some horses and a nice pint. Despite being a 'man's man', he loves cooking and would just somebody with a great personality to show a little affection and care for.
